Some graves are marked in stone. Others are lost to the earth. But every one of them carries a story that still glows.
On this tiny island in a vast sea is the final resting place for more than 1,000 people who lived and laboured at the Port Arthur Historic Site between 1833 and 1877.
This 60-minute experience starts with a journey to the Isle of the Dead aboard the MV Marana. From there, you’ll take a guided walking tour of the island to discover the stories of convicts who were transported from across the world, and the soldiers who gave their lives to guard the prison. Their memory survives as long as we continue to speak their names.
Set on the edge of the Tasman Peninsula, the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Port Arthur Historic Site is known for award-winning cultural tourism experiences. Walk through towering ruins and quiet cells, discover the unbreakable stories of those who came before, and witness the epic scale of Australia’s convict history.
Tours depart daily at 12:20pm; 1:00pm & 3:00pm.
Please allow 60 minutes for your tour, which includes 20 minutes aboard the MV Marana ferry, and a 40-minute walking tour.
