Isle of the Dead Tour

Some graves are marked in stone. Others are lost to the earth. But every one of them carries a story.

On this tiny island in a vast sea is the final resting place for more than 1,000 people who lived and laboured at the Port Arthur Historic Site between 1833 and 1877.

This guided 60-minute experience begins with a journey aboard the MV Marana to the Isle of the Dead. Once ashore, you’ll explore one of Australia’s most significant historic cemeteries and uncover the stories behind the names, headstones, and unmarked graves. Learn about the lives and deaths of those who lived and laboured at Port Arthur, and discover how their stories continue to shape the site’s history today.

• This tour is conducted outdoors and there are no services or shelters on the island, so please be prepared for all weather.
