Port Arthur has a naturally deep harbour which lended itself perfectly to the arrival of large ships back in the convict era. Port Arthur even operated its own Dockyard from 1834 where many large decked ships were built and launched.
These days our cruise ship passengers arrive by tender to the jetty to explore the site as well as join tours of the wider region. Ships typically arrive in the early morning with passengers returning back to the ship around midday.
