As Tasmania shivers through its belated winter this spring, wild weather has lashed the Port Arthur Historic Site.
Heavy rain, sleet and hail combined with a big swell and high tides, as the accompanying photographs taken by Port Arthur Tourism Operations Manager, Maria Stacey, show.
The swell has caused the cancellation of the Site’s harbour cruises, and thus also tours to the Isle of the Dead and Point Puer Boys Prison, for today and tomorrow.
The wild conditions have not, however, detered visitors and guided tours and ghost tours are proceeding as normal.
“Our intrepid and hard-working guides are used to working in all weather conditions,” said Maria. “But this wild weather is exceptional, and we thank them for their efforts under very trying circumstances.”
“A severe weather warning is in place for today and tomorrow, so in the interests of the safety of our visitors and staff, the harbour cruise components will not operate.”
The heavy weather is expected to continue until the weekend.
