Visitor numbers for the month of June 2004 to the Port Arthur Historic site increased by 68 per cent compared to June 2003.
In June 2004 15,217 people visited the historic site compared to 9,217 visitors in June 2003 – an increase of 6,000 visitors.
Year to date figures for June 2004 show that total visitation to the Port Arthur Historic site is up 12 per cent on the same time last year with visitor numbers increasing to 272,400 from 239,712 in 2003.
Premier Paul Lennon said that this is an outstanding result and shows that competitive air access into the state is having a positive effect.
