Strange Fruit mesmerise audiences at Port Arthur

March 25, 2011

Despite some very ordinary weather in the previous couple of days, Australian performance artists Strange Fruit triumphed over the odds to give their first performance of ‘Ringing the Changes’ at the Port Arthur Historic Site on Friday 25 March 2011, as part of Ten Days on the Island.

The Strange Fruit performers held a captivated crowd, which grew and grew as the performance progressed, completely in their thrall. Five performers perched atop their five metre high fibreglass poles, swayed hypnotically while playing sets of tuned bells. Two ground-based performers played arrays of bells while conductor Graeme Leake coordinated the show to mesmeric effect.
