Special Family Ghost Tours at Port Arthur this summer

December 1, 2008

Special ‘family-friendly’ Historic Ghost Tours will be offered for the first time this summer at the Port Arthur Historic Site.

Guiding Manager at the Historic Site, Jake Bradshaw, said that many younger children found the regular tours too scary to be enjoyable, and that the tours were not therefore recommended as a family activity.

He says the family tours have been introduced so that families can enjoy the fun of the stories, without the potential for nightmares.

“Daylight savings also means that it will be light for most of the duration of the tour,” he said.

“These tours are more suited to families with children under 14 years of age or so. The tour will follow the normal church tour route. but the guides will wind down the scare-factor and make them more suitable for youngsters.”

Family Ghost Tours will be offered at 7.30pm every night between 26 December 2008 and 23 January 2009. Bookings are recommended – call 1800 659 101 for information and reservations.
