Tasmania’s tourism industry has dominated the prestigious Australian Tourism Awards, announced in Melbourne on Friday evening, with Tasmanian operators having taken home awards in 19 out of a total of 26 categories.
Bruny Island Cruises, The Tasmanian Walking Company, Curringa Farm Tours and Accommodation, Avalon Coastal Retreat and Pumphouse Point each won Gold awards, with The Old Woolstore Apartment Hotel winning two.
The Port Arthur Historic Site won Silver in both the Cultural Heritage and Major Tourism Attraction awards – a worthy follow up to winning Gold Awards in both categories last year.
Other Tasmanian Silver award winners include Cruisin’ Motorhomes, Tasmanian Travel and Information Centre, Avalon City Retreat, Sandpiper Ocean Cottages, Saffire Freycinet, Farm Gate Market and the Tasmanian Walking Company.
The Australian Tourism Awards are the tourism industry’s peak Awards, recognising and promoting excellence in tourism. Finalists are winners in their respective state tourism awards categories.
