Port Arthur Dockyard closed next week

March 16, 2009

The Port Arthur Dockyard, including access to the Stewarts Bay walking track, will be closed next week due to maintenance works.

The Clerk of Works house in our Dockyard area is about to have important conservation works done to the roof and ceilings as part of our regular maintenance program.

Our Building & Works crew will be re-shingling the roof and stabilising the ceilings.

During the early stages of these works there will need to be a minimum 10 metre exclusion zone around the site for safety reasons. For this reason, the Port Arthur Dockyard will be closed to visitors for the duration of the works.

The work is scheduled to start on 16 March and will last one week; however this is weather dependent.

Later during the works, PAHSMA Conservation personnel will offer a workshop in roof shingling, which will be open to visitors, members of the public, heritage property owners and other interested people. Further details will be available shortly.
