The Port Arthur Historic Site was last night named Tasmania’s best Major Tourist Attraction in the 2011 Tasmanian Tourism Awards.
It is the ninth time the Historic Site has won the award, having previously been crowned in 2001,2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008.
It joined other leading Tasmanian attractions such as the Museum of Old and New Art (Mona) and Bruny Island Cruises in the winners circle.
The Port Arthur Historic Site was also highly commended in the Heritage and Cultural Tourism category, with that prize awarded to the Beaconsfield Mine & Heritage Centre for the third time.

Winners in the state awards are entered in the national tourism awards, announced early in the new year.
