Join Port Arthur director of conservation and infrastructure, Peter Romey, on an American Odyssey on August 17.
Peter toured historic sites in Virginia and California in April this year while in the USA to present a paper at the US ICOMOS Symposium.
His travels took him to Harpers Ferry, Fredericksburg, Historic Williamsburg, Yorktown, Jamestown, Monticello and Alcatraz.
Interestingly, the opportunity to experience these places as a visitor and to meet with those who are responsible for their conservation and management revealed as much about Port Arthur as it did about Fredericksburg or Alcatraz.
Peter will reveal his casual impressions of historic Virginia and California, and some thoughts on what Port Arthur can learn from America.
The talk will be at the Asylum, Port Arthur Historic Site, at 5.30 pm.
