Cascades Female Factory topic of next Port Arthur Talk

02/08/2012

The recent history and plans for the future of the World Heritage-listed Cascades Female Factory Historic Site will be discussed by three people who are well-placed to help determine that future, in the next Port Arthur Talk.

The modern history of the Cascades Female Factory has seen many changes from its closure in 1904, purchase of Yard 1 by Government in 1976 for proclamation as a Historic Site, to the present day World Heritage listing as one of eleven places that comprise the Australian Convict Sites World Heritage property and being brought under the management of the Port Arthur Historic Site Management Authority (PAHSMA).

The talk will be presented by three Port Arthur staff intimately involved in the management and presentation of Cascades Female Factory today. Jody Steele, Heritage Programs Manager, and Jo Lyngcoln, Conservation Manager, have had a long association with the place as Parks & Wildlife heritage officers and in latter times through the World Heritage process and subsequent interpretation and conservation of the heritage values.

Julie Henderson, Manager of the Site since July 2011, is very much involved with the day to day activities and seeing it evolve into a location offering world class delivery of service and product to its visitors.

Their presentation will focus on contemporary history (how we got to here), conservation principles (what we are doing at the moment), and vision for the future (what you might see in the next five years).

ALL WELCOME!
