Wheelchair access

All facilities in the Visitor Centre, including the Port Café, Felons Bistro, Gift Shop, Convict Gallery and rest rooms allow independent access. A lift operates between levels.

The remainder of the Historic Site comprises a variety of areas, some of which provide independent access, and others which may require assisted access.

Our Introductory Tour and Harbour Cruise are both wheelchair accessible. However, our Ghost Tours and our tours to the Isle of the Dead and Point Puer Boys Prison are not recommended for those with mobility restrictions.

Disabled parking is provided adjacent to the Visitor Centre entrance.

Wheelchairs are available for loan from the Visitor Centre.

Courtesy vehicles

Our three courtesy buggies provide a regular drop-off and pick-up service around the Site for visitors with limited mobility. The service is available between 9.30am and 3.30pm daily.

Companion Card

Some people with a disability require the assistance of a companion or carer to participate at venues and events. Port Arthur Historic Site is proud to be among the first organisations in Tasmania to affiliate with the Companion Card Program. The program offers a second ticket or tour pass at no cost to patrons who possess a Companion Card.
