The Port Arthur Historic Site is an outdoor site and is subject to sudden changes of weather. Being adequately prepared for your visit will ensure that your day is both safe and comfortable.

Clothing and footwear

Most of our tours take place outdoors, and operate in all weather conditions. Please be prepared in the event of wet, hot or sunny weather. Wear comfortable walking shoes. The Site covers over 40 hectares or 99 acres.


Tours are conducted in English only. Printed Visitor Guides are available in English, Chinese, Japanese, French and German.


Our Introductory Tour and Harbour Cruise are both wheelchair accessible. However, our Historic Ghost Tour and our tours to the Isle of the Dead and Point Puer Boys Prison are not recommended for those with mobility restrictions.
