Don’t miss ETHEL and the TYO at Port Arthur this Sunday

March 25, 2009

Be sure not to miss what is bound to be one of the highlights of Ten Days on the Island, this Sunday at the Port Arthur Historic Site.

Described by the UK’s Guardian newspaper as ‘The fiercest string quartet this side of hell’, ETHEL performs in a very special collaborative event at Port Arthur. ETHEL’s four world-class, Juilliard-trained composer/musicians join forces with local talent from the Tasmanian Youth Orchestra (TYO) for a series of workshops culminating in a one-off concert event at Port Arthur.

Pack a picnic or grab a snack from our gourmet barbecue, and bring your family of music lovers to Port Arthur for a day of music to remember.

Experience the sounds of ETHEL performing a moving acoustic Sonic Morning Meditation before leading the 70-strong Tasmanian Youth Orchestra in a concert performance featuring Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite and new works by Australian and Native American composers, including compositions created especially for this event during the week-long workshop process.
