On July 28, Port Arthur hosted its second annual Career’s Day with Tasman District School students.
Following the success of last year’s event, the Career’s Day allowed 21 Year 10 students to gain an in-depth understanding of the wide variety of jobs undertaken by staff at the Port Arthur Historic Site.
Students heard about the structure and operation of the Port Arthur Historic Site Management Authority from members of the Executive, and were be matched with staff mentors who took them on an extensive tour of the Site to observe the variety of tasks and projects being undertaken. Students were also able to to talk to staff members about their jobs and how they came to be at Port Arthur.
The Career’s Day was a rewarding experience for both students and staff, and following last year’s event we were pleased to welcome several students to the Site for work experience so that they could further explore their interests in archaeology, conservation, information technology, and information management.
